Cell Phone Policy

On March 2, 2015, the DOE made the decision that every school establishes its own school-based cell phone policy. Students who bring a cell phone to school must use it only in accordance with their school’s cell phone rules. Our policy will remain the same as it has been for the past two years.

P.S. 347 Student Cell Phone Policy:

If items are brought from home, students must:

1. Turn the item in to the office in the morning before going to the cafeteria or to class, and the item will be secured. They will receive a receipt for the item, and can pick up the phone or electronic device from the office at the end of the school day.

2. In receiving the phone at the end of the day, students must wait until they exit the building before they are permitted to use it.

Consequence:

1. If a student fails to turn their phone (or electronic device) in to the office before going to the cafeteria or to class, and is caught with it in the building, the phone or device will be confiscated, and held at the school for one month from the exact date it was confiscated. For example, if the phone was taken on October 30th, it will be returned on November 30th (if the date of return falls on a weekend, it will be returned on the school day following that date). No exceptions.

2. If a student uses the phone before exiting the building at the end of the day, the phone or device will be confiscated, and held at the school for one month. No exceptions.

Please keep in mind that if a student fails to turn it in, and the item is stolen, the school is not responsible for the loss of any valuable items brought to school. If you need to contact your child for any reason during the school day, call the office at: 917-326-6608. If a student needs to call home for any reason, they will be permitted to do so on the phone in the office.

It is our hope that you will impress upon your child the importance of remaining focused on their learning and refrain from bringing these devices into the building.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school. Please sign and return the next section by September 10th, 2016.

Sincerely,

David Thacker Bowell, Principal

Maryanne Fisher, Assistant Principal
